Ultracompact Dual-Polarized Cross-Dipole Antenna for a 5G Base Station Array With a Low Wind Load

Very high wind loads represent one of the major problems for ultralarge-scale 5G base station arrays in sub-6 GHz band, where dozens or even hundreds antennas are used. An ultracompact dual-polarized cross-dipole antenna with an extremely small overall projected area is presented. The reduced by employing miniaturized cross dipoles and replacing traditional ground plane a defected structure (DGS) metal mesh reflector. DGS utilized size reduction isolation enhancement. Therefore, array low load formed using area, each can be independently packaged streamlined radome that conducive to airflow. prototype designed, fabricated, measured sub-1 band. results show impedance bandwidth 680–970 MHz, polarization higher than 20 dB, gain approximately 6.5 dBi. Furthermore, verify proposed excellent radiation performance highly suitable load.
